Brazil star Angelina sounds off on the Spanish referee and USWNT players’ lack of respect after Brazil’s 1-0 loss 😳
“Honestly, what happened here today is a complete disgrace,” she said as Brazil got a total of eight red cards for players and the coaching staff.
“The fourth official had no idea what’s going on the field, VAR doesn’t work. It apparently doesn’t check anything.
“One of our players gets stepped on and nobody reviews it. Then there’s a shove here, and the referee suddenly wants to start sending our players off. So it’s really difficult.
“One of USWNT players gave an interview saying it was a really nice atmosphere. But on the field, she was saying we were trash, that we didn’t know how to play football.
“So it’s a huge lack of respect—both from the refereeing and from their players too.
“They talk and talk, but when it really matters, when there are no cameras, they start saying a lot of crap on the field as well.
“So, I want to thank the fans who supported us the whole time. We’ll always give our best, and unfortunately we were really hindered today in getting the result. But we’ll keep working so this doesn’t happen again.
“And truly, I’m very grateful to the fans. I mean it was amazing what they did here. They broke the attendance record, they supported us the entire time.
“So, my heartfelt thanks to everyone in Fortaleza.”
Over 55,000 fans showed up to support Brazil. Unfortunately, the game wasn’t pretty with a lot of fouls and Spanish referee Paola Cebollada López dished out eight red cards to Brazil.
