This is a real Canadian recipe from the 1950s. It sounds strange, but it tastes like a warm spiced cake, not like tomatoes.

INGREDIENTS:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup tomato ketchup
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 2 eggs

FOR FROSTING (optional):
- 4 oz cream cheese
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon butter

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch cake pan.

2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

3. In another bowl, whisk together the ketchup, sugar, water, melted butter, and eggs until smooth.

4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

5. Pour into the pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Check with a toothpick, it should come out clean.

6. Let it cool completely. Mix the frosting ingredients and spread on top.

The ketchup makes it very moist and gives it a reddish color, but the spices cover the tomato flavor completely.

Day Tinubu stayed away from office for Chukwuebuka Anisiobi

It was June 6, 2001 when 16-year-old Chukwuebuka Anisiobi arrived at the Lagos governor’s office dressed like Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the governor of the state. For that day, Anisobi was the one-day governor.

You know that as a one-day governor, he was also entitled to the governor's official car for that day.

Anisiobi was a student of Maryland Comprehensive High School and had won a spelling bee organised by the New Era Foundation established by the state’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu.

In his honour, Governor Tinubu vacated his office.

While Anisiobi was governor, another 16-year-old Oliseh Kelikume, who came second in the competition, became acting deputy governor. Upon arrival at the oval building at the Lagos Secretariat, the teenagers greeted top government officials and fellow students who had come to receive them, before carrying out ceremonial functions for the day.

They also visited the children’s ward at the Lagos General Hospital, Ikeja as well as the Modupe Cole Memorial School in Akoka, where Anisiobi directed the Commissioner of Finance, Olawale Edun, to release ₦50,000 to the school.

At a state’s executive council meeting held later in the day, Anisiobi said: "I appeal to you (the commissioners and other aides) to continue to think of the poor, the youth and the needy as you carry out your daily activities. Continue to think of the boli (roasted plantain) sellers, groundnut sellers, coconut sellers that Governor Tinubu talks about all the time."

As the winner of the competition, Anisiobi, who planned to study computer engineering, also won ₦100,000.

Crisis Rocks Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti As SUG Election Turns Chaotic Over Alleged Vote Manipulation.

There was drama at the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, on Wednesday, following allegations of widespread irregularities in the Students' Union Government (SUG) election.

According to reports circulating online and among students, the SUG presidential election held today was marred by alleged illegal voting and manipulation of the voting portal.

It was gathered that shortly after the commencement of the election, many students were unable to access the school portal to cast their votes, as is the usual procedure.

Some students alleged that unknown persons had logged into their portals using their matriculation numbers and National Identification Numbers (NIN) — which are the required login details — to vote for a particular presidential candidate without their consent.

The development reportedly led to anger and confusion within the polytechnic community, with various videos making the rounds on social media showing students complaining bitterly about the situation.

Following the incident, aggrieved students were seen lodging formal complaints at the offices of the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Adu Peter Ajibola, and the Chief Security Officer of the institution, Mr. Nneji.

The students are calling on the school management, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), and relevant education stakeholders to urgently investigate the alleged fraudulent act and take necessary action to prevent a breakdown of law and order on campus.

As of the time of filing this report, the management of the institution is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
