Time for a social media break! Life is currently too overwhelming to deal with and getting stuck in doom scrolls isn’t helping - I have no time frame in mind for returning - I wish you all well and will so miss many of you!
@RuthJoy96960173 This is why I not only teach correct grammar but we also learn about code-switching and when to use it. If my kids are told they can write informally or are talking amongst themselves out of a lesson, I don’t police their words/grammar as it’s culturally based.
Great to see the kids getting back to a healthy environment that fosters their social/emotional health - because that’s for sure the real reason we need them in the buildings to learn - for their sake - riiiiiight 😒
Couple this with Black women being 3 times more likely than White women to die in childbirth and you have yourself a community disadvantaged from literal birth. Today. Right now. Whose lives are the odds truly stacked against? All lives..?
#BlacklivesStillMatter ✊🏻
If “All Lives Matter” then why are Black infants statistically more at risk immediately out of the womb when being cared for by White hands? That’s the only disparity here. Race.
Black newborn babies in the US are more likely to survive childbirth if they are cared for by Black doctors, but three times more likely to die when looked after by White doctors, a study finds. https://t.co/mZYC6O7sm0
@alexfreidus@ariherzog@framsuper@TracyNovick After teaching grades 10-12 the past 6 years, idk how younger grades effectively accomplish so meeting such varying needs - elementary school for example? Not a CLUE what teachers should try for engagement/accommodations/routine 🤷♀️🤦♀️
@ariherzog@alexfreidus@framsuper@TracyNovick It of course takes a lot of legwork but with having the same kids 10, 11, and 12th, I’ve been privileged in making connections with each as their own person - a large part of my teaching is individualized which makes my biggest priority this fall having them present at all.. /Fin
@ariherzog@alexfreidus@framsuper@TracyNovick Students should be encouraged to reach out in any form that’s natural and comfortable for them and when speaking 1:1 (ONLY) be explicit about what you’re assessing or discussing - ask open ended questions (not leading) and keep track of each student on a doc/notebook -
@ariherzog@alexfreidus@framsuper@TracyNovick Track what they seem to enjoy and do well in and what they seem to struggle most with (often times it’s not the skill so much as the type of task) and then when 1:1 discuss with them how they can show you that skill in their own way
