Today, an official email wrapped up my 7-year PhD: 'Congratulations, you have completed the requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy at the University of California, Santa Barbara.' When I started, I joked I only wanted one gift for finishing. Tomorrow, I'll wear it with pride.
