Meta is secretly pumping money into fake orgs like the Digital Childhood Alliance to pass bills like the App Store Accountability Act (ASAA) a bill that gives Facebook a free pass for addicting children, in states across the country.
Why don't they want the public to know about this? And why couldn't their Director give a yes or no answer?
Idaho's considering AI chatbot safety laws now?!
Parents can't tell their kid to put the phone down?
We need the state legislature defining what a chatbot is allowed to say to your 14-year-old?
And the bill is so vague that "reasonable measures" just means whatever the AI operator feels like doing until someone sues them (which only the AG can do, by the way, so good luck with that timeline).
The part that actually should scare you though is that the second you build infrastructure to verify minors online, you've built infrastructure to verify everyone.
That's not a slippery slope argument, that's Australia right now. They sold it as "protecting kids." What they actually built was a nationwide biometric ID system where adults hand over face scans to watch cat videos.
Idaho wants to go that direction?
All for a chatbot bill with $500k penalties that billion-dollar companies will pay without blinking, covering platforms that aren't even the ones destroying your kid's mental health?
Instagram's still on the phone. Snapchat's still sending streaks at midnight. TikTok's algorithm still knows your daughter better than you do. But sure. Let's regulate whether a chatbot admits it's not human.
Be the parent.
That was always the answer.
Hey @AlexisMCalatayu@FLSenate
Senator Calatayud, you're about to require government ID verification to use apps on your phone...
You know who absolutely loves this bill?
Grindr, Pornhub, and Meta.
If you do this, you're making app store providers build a massive identity verification database while the ones causing the problem get a pass (zero new restrictions on what Meta's algorithm does). Why give Meta et al a liability shield? "The parent approved the download, not our problem what happens after that."
And you're creating infrastructure that maps every Floridian's app usage to their verified government ID. That database is permanent and searchable. And databases get hacked.
Australia just did this in December. Go look at what's happening there now with their digital tracking systems. They don't stay limited to "protecting kids" - they expand.
Once you build verification infrastructure, you don't control how it gets used later. Law enforcement wants access to see who's using which apps? Future legislature decides political organizing needs monitoring? The system you're authorizing makes that possible.
Idaho killed this a few times, you should follow suit.
Your bill protects the companies creating harm. Worse, you're building surveillance infrastructure that benefits them while they keep serving algorithmic poison to kids.
This is corporate warfare dressed up as safety legislation, and Florida gets stuck with a surveillance database.
Kill this bill.
Because once you authorize this system, you can't dismantle it later.

This all feels so personal.
For the young people on my team, Charlie Kirk is a formative figure. It’s shattering.
For the rest of us it’s just us, it’s just what we do every day.
I pray that we find a way to use this horror to pull us together. I don’t know what our country looks like if we don’t.
I see people I love and respect raging and I understand. Every instinct in my body tells me to do the same but where will this that take us?
To those stoking the rage, please stop.
To the monsters at MSNBC and elsewhere saying he deserved it or worse, shame. I’m struggling to see how you fit in civilization.
You’re making coming together very hard.
Human beings are members of a whole, in creation of one essence and soul. If one member is afflicted with pain, other members uneasy will remain. If you have no sympathy for human pain, the name of human you cannot retain.

Emergency services responded swiftly, airlifting Kirk to a nearby trauma center where he underwent emergency surgery. As of midday, his condition remains critical but stable, according to a statement from Turning Point USA.
Praying for @charliekirk11 and his family during this terrifying time. This shooting is absolutely awful—senseless violence has no place in our world. Sending strength and love to all affected. 🙏
Law enforcement arrested this thug 14 times. It wasn’t law enforcement that failed. It was weak politicians like you who kept letting him out of prison.
We did it!
Oregonians deserve well-maintained roads without crushing tax hikes. HB 2025’s massive tax increases were the wrong approach—glad to see they don’t have the votes. We need fiscally responsible solutions to fund ODOT and local roads, not burden families. Let’s get back to the table and find a better way.
Hey @JDVance — nice of you to finally make it out to California.
Since you’re so eager to talk about me, how about saying it to my face?
Let’s debate. Time and place?
