🗣️ "The decisions we make now are going to shape us for generations to come." - Daniel Barcay of @HumaneTech_
Now is the moment to act: to design technologies that strengthen, not erode, our capacity for empathy, creativity and connection.
To protect the next generation, we need to:
🟢 Recognize AI's impact on our lives
🟢 Push for regulation on harmful business models that encourage artificial intimacy
🟢 Encourage inter-generational dialogue
🟢 Support human-centered alternatives to digital childhoods (3/4)
Welcome to #UNGA2025!
Today, Human Change hosts Safeguarding Children's Humanity in the Digital Age, where our expert speakers will not only discuss the risks of tech-fuelled childhoods, but also challenge us to imagine how we might protect children in the decades to come.

In just five days time, Human Change will convene leading voices in technology, ethics, policy and youth advocacy to discuss one of the defining questions of our time:
🔷 When we protect children from over-digitalization, what are we replacing those digital experiences with?
We are delighted to announce Margarita Louis-Dreyfus, Chairperson, @_HumanChange Foundation as our distinguished speaker.
Margarita Louis-Dreyfus was born in St Petersburg and, since 1985, resides in Switzerland where she lives with her three sons and two daughters.
Margarita Louis-Dreyfus graduated with a diploma in accounting from the St-Petersburg School of Commerce in 1981 and held a number of positions in accountancy, sales and marketing in Russia and Switzerland. Margarita Louis-Dreyfus was married to the late Robert Louis-Dreyfus from 1992 until his death in 2009. Chairperson of the supervisory board of Louis Dreyfus Holding B.V. since March 2011 and on this board since September 2007, Margarita has also been a member of the supervisory board of Louis Dreyfus Companies Holdings B.V. since April 2011 and was appointed Chairperson of this company in 2013. Margarita is the founder and president of the Paris-based Louis Dreyfus Foundation. The foundation aims to help reduce hunger and poverty by providing sustainable solutions to small farmers.
Margarita founded Human Change at Davos in 2024. Human Change (HC) is a global coalition of experts ringing the alarm about the dangers of digital devices and social media to children’s well-being and cognitive development. HC convenes and promotes the voices of experts advocating for children’s safety and well-being. HC consolidates research and partners with organisations and individuals, advancing a healthier future for the next generation. Through the power of collaboration and knowledge exchange, Human Change aims to drive system change that addresses the challenges of a hyper-digitalised society.

A recent @_HumanChange webinar on kids and AI companion chatbots was so compelling that we asked to excerpt and amplify it.
The speakers Chris McKenna, Gaia Bernstein, and Daniel Barcay agreed, and we're thrilled to share their expertise and insights with our network.
Among the highlights:
* Companion bots (CharacterAI, Replika) and general purpose bots (ChatGPT, Gemini) are on a merging trajectory as general purpose bots gain voice and users start to treat them as artificial friends.
* Social media prepared the addictive-algorithm ground. "Now you're taking a generation of kids who are already alone, and now you're giving them a solution that takes them away again from human relationship."
* "Design becomes destiny." There's nothing intrinsically addictive or manipulative about AI tech. It's all about their design--and the incentives driving the designers.
* "We’re seeing the erosion of real human relationships and their replacement with AI relationships."
* "Over the next 18 months we have a window [to incentivize positive design decisions]. The AI business models aren’t fixed. The technology designs are still malleable."
This is a critical conversation, and one that will leave you inspired to think more critically and act during this window of opportunity.
