A lady boarded a Keke Napep at 10pm in Ikeja, crying profusely.

She had no shoes on, and her phone screen was completely shattered.

The Keke driver almost didn't pick her up because Lagos at night can be very unpredictable. But her tears were different.

When she sat down, she kept shaking, holding her arms tightly around herself.

She told the driver she just escaped from her boyfriend’s apartment. They had a small argument about his late-night calls, and he threw her out of a moving vehicle on the highway.

She had no money, no slippers, and no way to call her family.

The Keke driver didn't say a word. He drove straight to a nearby 24-hour filling station, bought her a bottle of water, and handed her his own spare slippers.

Then he drove her all the way to her parent's house in Ketu—a distance that was completely outside his normal route.

When they arrived, her father ran out, saw his daughter's state, and broke down.

He tried to hand the Keke driver a ₦20,000 note to thank him for saving his daughter's life.

The driver shook his head, entered his Keke, and said, "Sir, I have two daughters at home. I didn't do it for money. I did it so that when my own children are stranded, a good man will find them too."

He drove off into the night.

This young widow in our compound suddenly stopped greeting people. She avoided conversations and looked constantly worried, unlike herself.
