The reality is that Amaechi’s political fortunes has been fading even before he left office as governor. His handpicked successor could not win, and his candidates in Rivers State haven’t won elections in a long time. Even an eight-year ministerial tenure under Buhari failed to arrest that decline.

Joining Atiku’s ticket is unlikely to herald a political rebirth. Not every fallen crown can be restored to its former lustre merely by changing the head upon which it rests.
