What a story.
This Thursday, we're recognizing the many accomplishments of our General Manager and President of Hockey Operations, Mark Bernard!
Bernard, or Bernie, has been a member of the Blackhawks organization for over 15 years. He served as the Vice President and Assistant General Manager of the Norfolk Admirals, the Blackhawks' former affiliate, in the team's 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. Following the 2007-08 season, Bernard was honored with the James C. Hendy Memorial Award as the Outstanding Executive in the American Hockey League. Since arriving in Rockford in 2008-09, he was a part of Chicago's three Stanley Cup runs and has been instrumental to the continued development of prospects. In 2023, he was inducted into the ECHL Hall of Fame and was honored with the Thomas Ebright Award in recognition of career contributions to the AHL.
Prior to his front office work, Bernie was a six-time MVP, two-time Riley Cup Champion, and scored not one, but two goalie goals. He set a professional hockey record on January 30, 1997 by recording four assists, and his stick from the game is on display at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
You can join the Rockford Park District in celebrating both Mark Bernard and Scott Burfoot at River View Icehouse this Friday from 4-6PM!
