A stream of White-winged Black Tern flew over our heads a few hours after arriving in Lesvos. This was the moment when I realised I was birding on a magical island
@StephenMoss_TV Thanks, Stephen! It was at Church Lane, Sedgeford, Norfolk. A few miles northwest of Snettisham. It was feeding on a verge next to a dog poo bin. Glamorous! Time for me to re-read Bill Oddie’s Little Black Bird Book.
When I started birding, I always remembered the tale of “Hoopoe only turn up in the Vicar’s garden”. So I followed up on the vague Hoopoe report at Sedgeford by starting at the church. Happy it paid off!
Pink-footed Goose ‘NW-7G’ with a GPS neckband sighted at Honey Hills, Norfolk, is wintering in the UK for the first time. This individual was ringed in the Netherlands and typically wintered in northern Belgium. Likely part of the current Tundra Bean and Whitefront influx
Closer views than I was expecting of the Snow Goose at Baston Fen.
Then onto the Crane and Whooper Swan roost at Willow Tree Fen. Listening to some of the best winter bird sounds with your mates is what it’s all about
Bit of Christmas luck this afternoon with finding 12 Russian White-fronted Geese (10 ads) at Priory Water. Part of the current influx nationwide, even better that they're local.

Lovely to catch up with @SBO_Jason at Farlington Marshes, where we had a Norwegian colour-ringed Rock Pipit ‘X9Z’.
Ringed at More og Romsdal, Norway in August 2020 and travelled 1434 km to overwinter at Farlington. Recorded at Farlington each winter since.
Finding this female Lesser Scaup wasn't on the cards today. Showed well this afternoon off the southern section of Swithland Res, Leicestershire.
Even sweeter with it being a county tick, where the hot streak continues.
