Posting on twitter with barely any followers is like talking to the abyss.
But I think there’s something powerful about putting your thoughts out into the world.
The best thing you can have in life is a childlike sense of wonder.
Because without it, music is just music. The sense of wonder is what brings excitement and meaning behind anything and everything.
I think taste comes from exposure. And I think well traveled/experienced people have exposure to more emotions they can bring about through music. So my working theory is that anyone who is really well traveled or experienced probably really likes music.
What it means to be alive has changed for new generations because of time perception disappearing with the use of social media and video games.
In the chart below, we see time perception is at its slowest during youth. But since social media and video games drastically speed up perception of time, new generations likely don’t have the slowdown in perception as seen in the chart. And I think flying past your youth years may fundamentally change what it means to be alive.
I think the answer to the ship of Theseus problem is “under what conditions”.
The question is if after getting repairs, the ship is a different ship or the same. There really is no “ship” it’s a pile a wood we call a “ship”. But we give things names for simplification reasons, rather than listing all the components. According the human laws it’s the same ship. According to the laws of the ocean, the repaired ship may be entirely different. The old may sink while the new may swim. So to achieve an answer we must first ask “under what circumstances is it a new ship?”
Why this matters is because we are this ship. Changing each day based on experiences. Who we are changes over time like the ship. We crash into rocks then rebuild. To everyone I know I’m the same person, but to myself, I’m a slightly new person each day.
I think drugs are fascinating. And we need to stop looking at them through our current lense. It’s incredible how in as short as 15 seconds you can visit a different level of consciousness. Drugs create real life superpowers. The only problem is that the tragedy of the human condition may compel us to abuse these superpowers and lead us to a more miserable life.
What does it mean to be conscious. I suppose it means simply“to be”. Or more complexly, to view the experience of the self in a realm outside of the physical.
A gorilla can do this. Are my experiences more valuable than this gorillas? I’d happily trade my life spent in a human modern environment to be an ape who could roam a jungle freely and spend every meal with his friends.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter philosophically because I’ll never have the chance to experience that consciousness. All I have is my own consciousness and an undisclosed amount of time left.
In that way if I had to explain life as a game I’d say it’s a game of doing whatever you want. And I want to live a great life and enjoy the time I have here in a fulfilling way.
That leads me to one conclusion. Life is something to be mastered. Most people are blessed to pass go more than enough times to use experiences from previous gameplay to better their understanding of the game and along with that the human condition. And knowing I can always get better at the game motivates me. And knowing there’s really no winners or losers because there’s not enough structure or meaning to the game in the first place also gives me peace because I know at the end of the day that nothing matters anyway.
So my note to myself is this: Get what you desire out of life. If that’s fulfilling work and fulfilling people then that should be the only thing that matters to you. If something bothers you but has no impact on those two things then forget about it. And for when you’re unmotivated and hurt, there’s so much good to live for and bad to block out. Work hard enough to make your life what you want it to be. It’s worth it.
Instead of studying towards a degree, I think the world will move towards a degree that matches what you study.
With a tracker of internet/LLM use on specific subjects we can better understand what you’ve been exposed to and what you’re very knowledgeable about; also what your blind spots are.
@bowlsmarkets How much sleep do you loose to the idea that you’re going to be tortured as an infidel because you didn’t give your life to Islam.
That’s how Muslims feel about any other religion.
That’s how I feel about all religions.
It almost seems to show how we take very easy concepts (1/3 & 1) and how in the process of digesting it in a way we can understand and work with (decimals), we loose some sort of truth in the process.
Math can be illogical and still work.
My favorite example is:
1/3=0.333…
Multiplied by 3 equals both 1 and .999…
Depending on which side you multiply.
Therefore, 1=0.999…
Which is illogical but logical.
I love how little things can make us question what we think we understand.
