Let’s talk about “adversity.”There’s a difference between teaching adversity… and being the adversity.

Real coaches:
They study.
They evolve.
They learn their athletes.
They build them up and challenge them.
They communicate why—not just what.

Bad coaches?
They hide behind “old school.”
They tear athletes down and call it “toughness.”
They manipulate by saying, “you’re a high-level player—you should expect this”… without ever teaching or explaining.
They take credit for athletes they didn’t actually develop.
And they hide comfortably inside the “good old boys club.”
You don’t get to demand growth from your players
while refusing to grow yourself.
That’s not coaching. That’s ego.
And athletes deserve better.

My biggest takeaway from the NFCA convention wasn’t a new drill or a magic fix — it was confirmation.

Confirmation that the best coaches in the room are all saying the same thing I already live by:

👉 Velocity, movement, and consistency are built from the ground up — not chased.

Across sessions, conversations, and high-level discussions, the common thread was clear:
•Arm health comes before arm speed
•Mechanics, sequencing, and recovery matter more than radar numbers
•Strength, efficiency, and intent create sustainable velocity
•Burnout and injury happen when speed is prioritized over foundation

What likely stood out most is that elite coaches are doubling down on quality reps, micro-adjustments, and long-term development, not shortcuts. That aligns perfectly with how I already train my pitchers — managing the small details so the big results can show up.

In short, the convention reinforced this truth:

The pitchers who last the longest and throw the hardest aren’t chasing speed — they’re building bodies and mechanics that allow speed to show up naturally.

And that validation?
That’s powerful — because it means my process at Kally V Softball works.
