MISSING PERSONS: A SERIOUS NATIONAL CONCERN — AUTHORITIES MUST ACT SWIFTLY

A few months ago, I raised serious concerns about the increasing reports of people going missing in Ghana, and I believe it is necessary to bring the matter back to the attention of the authorities.

I am therefore respectfully appealing directly to H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, the Honourable Minister for the Interior, the Cyber Security Authority, the Inspector-General of Police and the Ghana Police Service to treat the issue of missing persons with the urgency it deserves.

When a person goes missing, every hour can matter. Families are left traumatised, uncertain about the whereabouts and safety of their loved ones, and sometimes forced to search for answers on their own.

I am not suggesting that every missing-person case has the same cause. However, authorities should ensure that every credible report is properly documented, assessed and investigated, including the possibility of criminal activity, human trafficking, kidnapping, online exploitation, financial motives or other circumstances where evidence points in that direction.

We need stronger coordination between Police investigators, Police Intelligence, Cybercrime investigators and other relevant security institutions, particularly where phones, social media, mobile-money transactions, CCTV, vehicle movements or other digital evidence could help establish what happened.

The Ghana Police Service already has structures for missing-person records, criminal intelligence and cyber investigations. The question is how effectively these capabilities are being brought together when a person disappears.

Mr President, Hon. Interior Minister, CSA and Ghana Police Service, I respectfully ask: can we strengthen the national response to missing-person cases before more families are left without answers?

This is not about politics.

This is about protecting lives, finding missing persons and giving families answers.

I raised this concern months ago, and I am raising it again because I believe the matter requires urgent, coordinated and sustained attention.
