We are living a catastrophe in every sense of the word. Since the commercial crossings that used to supply Gaza with food and vegetables were closed, prices have exploded in a mad surge, until they have surpassed people’s ability to endure. Inflation is no longer just a figure in the marketplace; it has become a daily knife that stabs the stomachs of the hungry and the dignity of the helpless.

The markets are full of goods in appearance, yet empty in meaning. Vegetables are piled before our eyes, but they are distant, as though behind thick glass that cannot be broken. Families stand in silence, staring, then turn away weighed down by helplessness; there is no ability to buy, no means to confront this greed imposed by force and siege.

We are besieged by land, sea, and air. The crossings are closed in our faces, and every path to survival is sealed. There is not enough water, no warmth to protect us, no safety to reassure our children. Each passing day carves away at our nerves, our bodies, and our dreams.

Here, there are no multiple possibilities; hunger knocks on the doors, cold gnaws at the bones, the shelling does not cease, and oppression accumulates until it suffocates within our chests. We live on the edge of breaking—between a slow death by hunger, a sudden death by bombardment, and a heavy silence that no one hears.
