I said "what is it"

She said "an escape room"

I said "what time"

She said "5pm"

The irony of trapping employees in a room they have to solve their way out of at the exact hour they've been trying to escape all week was apparently lost on her

I said "no"

She said "it's mandatory"

I said "so is reading the policy before enforcing it but here we are"

She said "it's about building team culture"

I said "I already spend 50 hours a week with these people. If we haven't built culture by now, a padlock and a flashlight aren't going to fix it."

She said "your attitude is part of the problem"

I said "my attitude built the Q2 forecast in two days. What has the escape room built."

She didn't answer

She left a flyer on my desk

I used it as a coaster

At 4:58 I packed my bag

The analyst saw me leaving

He said "you're not going?"

I said "I have somewhere to be"

He said "where"

I said "home"

He looked confused

Like the concept of leaving at 5 on a Friday was something he'd only read about

I said "you should try it sometime"

Got in the car

My wife called

She said "are you coming home?"

I said "I escaped"

She said "from what"

I said "the escape room"

She said "you didn't go did you"

I said "I didn't need to. I solved it from my office. The answer was the door."

She laughed

First time she's laughed at something I said in weeks

I'm counting that

Sala prenotata senza sapere quante persone sarebbero arrivate, pubblico che resta anche dopo per condividere lavori e chiacchiere. L’idea di unire cinema e attività manuali nasce in Olanda come formula pensata anche per persone con Adhd, con ambienti più confortevoli e luci soffuse. Dopo Brescia, il format punta a essere replicato: le richieste arrivano da molte città e una nuova data è già prevista tra gennaio e febbraio.

My mom goes to elderly university for free in China. It is probably the best thing they have done for elderly. She likes it so much. You can take any subject you like, no exam, no certificate, just learning for fun. She’s now learning gardening, music, philosophy, and some geopolitics. There are farmers travelling all the way to the school everyday to learn. This is 1000x better than stupid elderly home which basically kill elderly quickly rather than care.

Durante una lezione di matematica alla Columbia University, uno studente si è addormentato per un attimo. Quando si è risvegliato, la lezione era quasi finita e sulla lavagna c'erano due esercizi.
Pensando che fossero compiti a casa, li ha copiati per risolverli più tardi.

Una volta a casa, si è subito reso conto che non si trattava di esercizi facili, ma davvero difficili.
Ma non si è arreso.
Ma non si arrese.
Rimase seduto per ore in biblioteca, sfogliando libri, confrontando approcci di soluzione, facendo ricerche.
Alla fine riuscì a risolvere uno dei compiti, con quattro elaborazioni dettagliate.

Durante la lezione successiva si chiese perché il professore non avesse menzionato i "compiti a casa".
Alzò la mano e chiese:

"Mi scusi, perché non ha discusso l'ultimo foglio di esercizi?"

Il professore lo guardò stupito e rispose:

"Non erano compiti a casa, erano esempi di problemi matematici che nessuno ha ancora risolto".

Lo studente rimase senza parole.

"Ma io ne ho risolto uno, in quattro pagine!"

Effettivamente, la sua soluzione era corretta.
L'università ha riconosciuto ufficialmente il suo lavoro e le sue quattro pagine sono ancora oggi conservate nell'archivio della Columbia University.

Lo studente si chiamava George Dantzig e la sua storia ci mostra chiaramente una cosa:
