At the #UNBCED Celebration of Learning. Congratulations Block 5 Teacher Candidates from the Prince George Campus for successfully completing the 16-month @UNBC Teacher Education Program. We wish you all the best!!
After our practicum sharing fire-circle & camping at Government Hill, weāre exploring Barkerville with a soundwalk based on the lifework of R. Murray Schafer. The soundscape here includes wild sounds present for 10K+ years, and human sounds representing the last 161 years.
At the colourful town of Wells, we had treats at the Frog & Bog, met up with a local artist & educator, walked out across the wetlands to an outdoor classroom, and made forest mandalas.
In the ghost town of Stanley, we explored the historic cemetery with an ArtStart sketching activity, a gold panning demo, and lunch by the old Lightning Hotel. Pretty much everyone had colour in the pan! (courtesy of some āguaranteed gold gravelā we threw into the mix)
At Blessingās Grave, we framed the space as a cultural landscape, revisited the grisly circumstances of Blessingās demise, considered ethical dimensions of forensic anthropology, and shared ideas on how to respond to a place like this with activities for various ages of students.
Out with @EducationUnbc teacher candidates for our annual 2-day Goldfields Excursion to explore the possibilities of place-responsive learning, with stops at Blessingās Grave, Stanley, Wells, and Barkerville.
Some teacher candidates had the opportunity to visit Giscome Elementary this morning to work with students, staff, community members, knowledge holders, @SD57Indigenous and @teacherkelseyy to make drums. What an experience. #SD57#UNBCED
