This whole thread is worth a read... As an educator, it's also important to remember "If a parent has ADHD, a child has more than a 50% chance of having it." It's important to keep that in mind when talking to the adults of our kids and thinking of how to support families.
🧵
A LOT of supposed ADHD traits aren’t actually ADHD traits. They’re really just traits that develop as a consequence of having the disorder. Some of these traits are coping mechanisms, others are trauma responses. Here’s a few examples:

Our final department meeting of the year gave us a chance to laugh and learn! Mr. Bramble demonstrated the Berlitz method as we think about ways to increase opportunities for EML students to immerse in using content-specific language and practice their speaking.
@MrSmithInspires brought Dr. @LorenKajikawa from GW to engage Blazers in both our Hip Hop History & Culture class and Intro. to Justice, Law & Society class to explore the use of rap lyrics in criminal cases. @robyngopin
The importance of people in your children’s lives who pour into all aspects of them cannot be understated… What @BONDEducators does for young men in @MCPS is special. It’s no coincidence that when my son shares who he looks up to, several of these educators are on that list. ❤️
“Create the space to have the hard conversations because what’s on the other side is beautiful understanding….” Being a Student Activist Panel (c/o 2025, 2018 and 1999 Blazers) as part of #blacklivesmatteratschoolweek@BLMAtSchool@dcaesj @blairprincipal
Next week for @BLMAtSchool Week of Action, Montgomery Blair @blairprincipal has created opportunities each day to center joy, elevate Black experiences and celebrate staff and students! @dcaesj
Students are making their own sounds in American History Through Film! After discussing how the horror genre is being used to specifically address American racism and taking a close look at the 1950s, students are creating what they think the actual sounds of the 1950s should be.
Seeking asylum is a human right. This is a disastrous order by the Supreme Court.
Title 42 is a cruel policy that was implemented using public health as an excuse. This extension of the policy until next June will put more asylum seekers in harm’s way.
At it again for the Social Studies Food Tour. Honestly, I didn’t think about how much joy a monthly gathering as a department brings, but now we hold them even when it’s not a heritage celebration! ❤️
This months department meeting was all about what’s next after examining our data. I’m grateful to be part of such a dedicated group of professionals. We can’t do everything, but together we can do something.
