I hadn’t planned on introducing a hundreds chart to these kids until 1st grade, but they are ravenous for number!! I set up numbers 1-20 and they have done the rest up to 50. I hadn’t made any more, so they took it upon themselves to start making some of the missing numbers!
How are a worm and an ant similar? How are they different? Such an natural way for math concepts to arise while investigating the world around us!
How can we deepen the conversations students are already having?
The Night of 100 Languages was a huge success! It was really awesome seeing how different people engaged with our Ball Wall! Ideas that we had never had blossomed. Such a gift to be able to play with people across our community.
Design process in action!! Wonder > Plan > Create > Test > Improve > Share
In an environment where children are given the space, time, and safety to play this comes so naturally! It’s a wonder to see it in action!
Even in the freezing cold, I find doing car rider duty to be such a blessing! I’m so grateful to get to spend time with students in other classes and get to soak up a little bit of their light!
“Mathematicians always have more ideas!” I sincerely squealed with joy when I heard a student say that today! We have been experimenting with magnetic ramps and the scientific method. Great things are happening in kindergarten!
Loving our new kitchen! We use real glass dishes and glassware. Giving kids real, breakable materials shows them that I see them as responsible and capable. It also encourages them to take care of the things in our classroom.
Just wanted to put it out there to whoever needs it, being a second year teacher is EXPONENTIALLY easier than being a first year teacher! It seriously makes a world of difference. So hang in there!!
We’ve loved having @missmendozaBU join our class this semester! She has formed such great relationships with the kids and we look forward to having her each week!
What an awesome experience it was having @Ms_Pius 5th grade class read with us today! We got to celebrate our growth on reading pattern books and our snap word knowledge. We are so lucky to be part of such a supportive community @ButlerLabSchool ! 📚
Our Block A class had the wonderful opportunity to help out with project work over color with @_Ms_Meredith's class this past Wednesday! The students were so welcoming and and it was amazing to explore and learn alongside them💙
“The colors make me feel like I am art!” What an amazing field trip to the LUME at @NewfieldsToday ! It was incredible watching what the space invited the kids to do. We danced, observed, imagined and cried (that last one was mostly me😅). Such a powerful experience!
Beautiful days call for small groups outside! We were getting a little antsy, so instead of powering through a whole group lesson on the carpet, I delivered the mini lesson in small groups and had the other kids play. We learned much more this way than if we’d all been cooped up!
We are immersing ourselves in color! After discussing what we already know and wonder about color, many ideas circled back to the question “how do you make colors?” These kids created all sorts of colors using primary colors and had great conversations about their processes! 🎨
