🚨 *Italy Drew a Line Between Traditional Food and Lab-Grown Meat. Imagine a country where meat grown from animal cells in a laboratory cannot legally be produced or sold. That country is Italy, which made headlines worldwide with a controversial food law. In December 2023, Italy became the first country to pass a national law banning the production, sale, and import of **cultivated meat made from animal cells**. The law also covers certain animal-cell-based products used in animal feed. But why did Italy take this step? The government said it wanted to protect public health, traditional farming, and the country's food heritage. Supporters welcomed the move, while critics raised questions about innovation and the future of sustainable food. *Here is the twist: The legal picture is more complicated than viral headlines suggest. Questions have been raised about the law's compatibility with European Union rules, so its legal enforceability has faced scrutiny. This is not a ban on every type of synthetic or plant-based food. It specifically targets products made from animal cells or tissues.
