Hi, I'm Dr. Nancy Yen Shipley, an orthopaedic surgeon in Portland.
I help people keep their joints healthy for the long haul, without rushing to surgery. Joint preservation, regenerative medicine, and care that treats the whole person, not just the painful joint.
You don't need to be a pro athlete to get pro-level care. Getting back to work, lifting your grandkid, your Saturday hike: whatever you want to do with your day is your pro sport.
I started in orthopaedics when only 6% of us were women. I've been doing it my way ever since.
I hate watching this clip every time, but the ATC (Brandee Barbee) sprinting and moving a player out of the way was the right thing to do. As a former football team doc I’ll stand by this every time.
Dante Moore was just hit with one of the DIRTIEST SHOTS in the history of CFB.
Please pray for the healing of the Ducks QB and potential QB1 in the 2027 NFL Draft 🙏
Huh… look at these males carrying water bottles???!!! Lol man… they are “waterboys”… better move bc u don’t know what u are doing!!! Is this right? Am I getting this correct lol
Before you go telling people they can swat anyone away who “puts hands on them” please know what you’re talking about first.
Athletic Trainers have AUTHORITY to physically remove players from the area of an injured player.
She had every authority to push him out of the way.
First step…clear the perimeter
I think many don’t realize
1) how loud it is out there - there’s no “excuse me sir can you kindly step aside”
2) the urgency of the situation when condition is unknown
3) the NCAA officially grants "unchallengeable autonomous authority" to primary athletics healthcare providers including ATCs
The downed athlete is the priority and any non-medical staff are simply in the way.

Great question. In a quiet ER room, yes, always.
On a loud field with a motionless player, you guide people aside (I didn’t see a shove or a tackle in the video) and introduce yourself later. Same as when a patient crashes in the ER. The setting changes the manners, not the priority.
@mcuban AI does not lay awake at night thinking about their patients. AI doesn’t replay a complex surgical technique in their heads over and over again before a big procedure. AI doesn’t CARE like really truly care.
