It pisses me off because everyone yelled at Lucasfilm for years for not doing anything interesting with the sequels so they created the high republic and branched out, away from the skywalker saga and people still didn’t give it a chance because it was a show led by a WOC
hopeful thinking: this just means in 10 years when everyone finally realizes how amazing The Last Jedi is that we’ll have a Sequels renaissance and get some spectacular Star Wars films
It'd been so long I had chills for most of the runtime, especially everything with Luke, Rey and Ben. Mark and Carrie's best performances.
Great sounding dialogue, epic shot composition. Waiting to get a SW with this caliber of a combo between technical craft and story again
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) keeps getting dismissed over a thirty-second origin gag, while the rest of the film just moves. Train heist, Donald Glover locking into Lando & a crew dynamic that actually clicks. It never really got judged on what it is.
Actually this is also why we're stuck in remake/reboot hell, young people with new ideas aren't allowed into the industry anymore.
Japan constantly scouts new talent while in the US it's just nepotism now.
As a lapsed Star Wars fan I really think it’s all just the Rise of Skywalker. It was not only calamitous but nonsensical, insulting and because it was the climax of the trilogy it made people feel like their yearslong emotional investment in the sequels had been a waste of time.
Well maybe they shouldn't have bent over backward to nuke their new trilogy of new characters in the final hour in order to cater to 50 year old white men and subsequently destroy every part of their new stories down to their theme park presence
TRON: Legacy (2010) is one of those movies that cinephiles keep revisiting almost entirely because the Daft Punk score is that good. The second “Recognizer” or “Adagio for TRON” kicks in, the whole film suddenly feels ten times larger and cooler.
Luke Skywalker actually did not try to murder his nephew at all.
Like, he DID absolutely consider it, and if you don’t like that storyline, that’s fine.
But it’s really important to me that you understand that the film is very clear that Luke did not try to murder his nephew.
My hottest take here is that the Sequel Trilogy sucks in large part because The Rise of Skywalker gave its biggest haters exactly the movie that they asked for.
