If a GP, who is a senior doctor, refers a patient to secondary care & the referral gets rejected…
We MUST know who has rejected that referral
• Their name
• Their position (doctor/**non-doctor)
It’s a basic requirement & medico-legally this must be mandatory!
99% have said no. GPs and GP registrars across England have overwhelmingly rejected the Government’s imposed contract changes for 2026/27.
These plans would pile unsafe, unfunded workload onto already stretched practices, putting patient care at risk.
GPs are calling on the Government to return to the table and work with the profession on a contract that’s safe, properly resourced, and sustainable.
Genuinely wonder if specialists are unaware of direction of travel in NHS and see themselves as untouchable.
As GPs, we are used to having to constantly justify ourselves so aren't complacent.
If expertise is simply replaced by "test and discharge"... Who needs a consultant?
Being a GP is now a never ending game of apologising that other services no longer offer care, explaining tests and treatments done by others, and late nights researching how to manage conditions previously handled by specialists.
(Whilst being chastised for all NHS ills)
I’m fuming
Dr Amir Khan on ‘No Appointment Necessary’ nails the problem with the new Advice and Guidance
It’s effectively moving the hospital waiting list to the community so it’s not counted against Govt targets
We see you @NHSEngland@wesstreeting

My cynical side wonders that A&G is actually part of the "replace GPs" agenda. Have non doctors running primary care being remotely supervised by A&G.
Specialists are great at being specialist. Primary care is largely about a holistic & generalist approach and we can't lose that
His name appears on the triage list again. A feeling of failing this man on some level comes over me. The contracts push me in a direction that goes against the family GP I want to be. There is no tick box for continuity of care.

@asparagoid Surely the role of dopamine dumping from social media and the deteriorating mental health of the younger generation as a whole would also be a significant variable to consider?
Now we know why Rishi Sunak refuses to negotiate with NHS staff.
He wants the strikes to go ahead, so he can blame doctors and nurses for his failure.

When I applied for training, I thought a competition ratio of 5 was ridiculous. But now... 14? 21??27??? It's inexcusable. This isn't poor workforce planning, it's a scandal.
Governments will turn the tap on and off as it suits but need to be reminded that these numbers represent PEOPLE - doctors, their own constituents with hopes and dreams for their own careers!
In a new FOI response, the @gmcuk states it has no definition of "practising medicine" and that defining it is not within its role.
A regulator that can't define the very thing it regulates is failing the public and the profession.
This payslip is from 2005.
A doctor took home £2,416.
In 2025, resident doctors are still taking home roughly the same amount - but everything else has gone up: rent, bills, food, fuel.
That’s a 23% real-terms pay cut since 2008.
Doctors aren’t asking for a pay rise.
They’re simply asking for restoration of their pay to 2008 levels.
@wesstreeting promised a “journey” to fair pay. But his current plan would take over 20 years just to get doctors back to the pay levels they had in 2008.
That’s not a journey.
That’s standing still while the world moves on.
This is why doctors are voting to strike.
Not out of greed - but because they can’t afford to keep being devalued.
Fair pay isn’t too much to ask.
It’s the bare minimum.

Just FYI - we have thousands of GPs (newly qualified AND experienced) who are unemployed, driving Ubers, using food banks…
Watching themselves be replaced by people without a medical degree or a fraction of their training
SHAME on all those who’ve played a part enabling this😞
If nothing else, this thread is to raise awareness of the basic lack of courtesy and respect along with nonsensical miscommunications at almost every step of the way.
Very unimpressed.
@currys your customer service for TV installation has been absolutely abhorrent.
Purchased a TV and fixing it to the wall (where I had to purchase the bracket myself from you) on July 15th, scheduled to be installed 28/07.
On arrival, I was told I was sold the incorrect…
As I never received one as originally promised.
On top of that, the next date possible to install would be the 8th of September. Almost a whole month and a half after purchase.
Two PREVENTABLE delays, with no communication and no transparency or respect to the customer.
