Олександр Крохмалюк вийшов у полон із «Азовсталі», пройшов Оленівку та Таганрог. Останнім відомим місцем утримання було СІЗО-2 у Камишині.

У вересні 2025 його тіло повернули в межах обміну репатрійованими тілами у форматі «1000 на 1000». Судово-медична експертиза у Львові встановила причину смерті — перелом ребер і тупа травма грудної клітки.
