Wrong question. History says it never needed to.

Two stories explain what just happened here:

🚗 BYD never built a better car than Tesla. It built "good enough" and made it dramatically cheaper, then scaled like a flood. Today BYD is the world's #1 EV maker. Tesla still makes the "premium" car. BYD makes the money.

📱 Apple built the best phone. Android was good enough and basically free, so it took ~70% of the planet. Apple kept the profit crown. Android took the volume.

DeepSeek just ran BOTH plays at once. Open-source like Android. Permanently cheap like BYD. "Officially set to 1/4 of the original price." Not a promo. The new floor.

And here's the punchline nobody wants to say out loud:

Most work doesn't need the genius model. It needs good enough, at 1/4 the price. That's ~90% of real-world AI.
