If we increased $$$ for basic research into complex mental illness at the the same rate we might actually be able to unlock personalised approaches to treatments and possibly even cures! @AlboMP@Mark_Butler_MP@nhmrc
Total spending on mental health in 2013 was $7.8bn which covered 46% of the population. In 2020, expenditure is closer to $11bn to cover 47%. Go figure.
It is so true @georgie_harman. We persistently let these individuals down. We also fail them when we fail to fund research that seeks to understand the underlying causes. It’s time to discover real tailored & personalised treatment solutions. @Mark_Butler_MP
It’s very hard to ignore these stats! Question is … will our Govts start to invest in the right sort of research to change the rising tide of long term debilitating mental illness? Translational research alone will not fix this challenge @Mark_Butler_MP@AlboMP
