Rwanda is celebrating 59 years of independence 🇷🇼🇷🇼🇷🇼🇷🇼🇷🇼
🇷🇼Rwandan independence was granted by Belgium with UN oversight.
🇷🇼Rwanda later went on to face brutal civil war that was capitalised by the Rwandan genocide as tensions rose between the Hutus and Tutsis worsened by the lack of UN intervention at the time.
🇧🇮Burundi was first colonised by Germany in the 20th century. Following defeat after the First World War this occupation was territory was inherited by Belgium.
🇧🇮Its natural resources include cobalt and copper.
🇸🇴Somalia celebrates independence from both British and Italian colonial rule and has faced an ongoing civil war.
🇸🇴It has also been known as the Somali Republic and as Somaliland.
🇸🇴It was formally a British Protectorate.

Yesterday our Congolese brothers and sisters celebrated 61 years of independence!!
Here are some facts to celebrate:
🇨🇩Okapi is the national animal.
🇨🇩DRC was formerly known as Congo-Léopoldville.
🇨🇩It’s is the largest country in Sub-Saharan African and the second biggest country in Africa after Algeria.
🇨🇩It is the most populous francophone country in the world and 4th most populous in Africa.
🇬🇾Guyanese Creole is the nation’s vernacular language and its citizens may also speak Portuguese, Spanish, French, Chinese, Dutch and Guyanes Hindustani.
