You gotta feel for Blue Archive's global marketing team.
Collab with anime-adjacent creators and you reach your target demographic, but a lot of them already hate us, and would destroy the culture around the game as we know it if they played it en masse. As we've well seen elsewhere.
Collab with respected BA creators and the existing community is happy, but you're hardly reaching new audiences.
Their purpose is to grow the game and make money so Arona can put food on the table. But they can't win. Your average Western anime fan is not compatible with what Blue Archive means to us.
To celebrate our Fest update, weโve partnered with four incredible creators for a special influencer campaign!
Tune in to their streams, enter your Member Code through the event page for a chance to win Pyroxene!

#BlueArchive
I think they're just trying their best to sell the product - that's their job. They would absolutely vet them from a business perspective, but I would be surprised if the decision makers understood or were aware of twitter drama surrounding Brandon and Fob before it has been pointed out to them in the replies.
Obviously it's a mistake. But it's not very Blue Archive or Sensei of us to say a mistake is 'deserving of hate'. The return on investment that they won't get from this marketing campaign will speak for itself.
@SporgSensei Exactly - the Japanese, Korean, and (probably) Chinese communities will always be the priority. The enthusiasm is there and money talks. I hope we can continue to enjoy Blue Archive in our corners of the world for a long time yet..!
@NekuroXD The vast majority of us who stick around and contribute like the game. Haters will get bored and go.
I look forward to the interactions I'll have someday with the future Kivotos Patriots starting their first day at Schale today ๐ซถ
@kid_cyborg They need a good way to market to individuals, instead of relying on CCs with unreceptive audiences.
I discovered the game organically after coming across Bunny Asuna & Karin artworks EVERYWHERE when they released on JP. It was curiosity, not because anybody told me to try it.
On the contrary, all investors care about is growth and eyes on their products. The CC collabs announced in the last year (and not previously unless I'm mistaken) are evidence of a change in strategy by the English marketing team in how they engage with and grow the playerbase.
My fear is the company becomes too scared of active players to take risks needed to grow the game, they have one bad year, and the NA & EU servers get shut down. But my gut feeling is that's not likely to happen for a long time at least. They should have time to figure it out. HOPE ๐
@Fuuka_Archive Hopefully they will put the Japan money to good use expanding the IP. I loved the anime as a fan of the game, but it wasn't a good anime hahaha
In the English-speaking world I think it's hard to say. I feel like the game has always been niche here, but we have a community that has grown organically and slowly. And with the explosion of anime culture here since COVID, there is definitely potential for growth. I'm seeing new accounts pop up every week.
In Japan it's definitely not in a recession. Topping appstore rankings, most represented IP at Comiket, massive public advertisements, licensed products like figures and plushies have exploded and the revenue the company gets from that. That's a healthy spot to be in if you ask me. It's bigger than Pyroxene sales.
Can you seriously name any content creator whose audience would be both receptive of Blue Archive and also not already familiar with it?
As another guy mentioned, Gigguk could've been that guy, but because of the backlash to CDawg being announced in that collab they cancelled the whole thing.
Trivial things like helping these goobers shoot ninjutsu videos and guide them to discover they should value belonging and friendship over opportunity and success?
Trivial things like helping the Red Winter girls sell spicy books in Trinity?
Let's not be short-sighted after one major story patch! Now is still the good times.
