THREAD: PG Support Group. RT's appreciated!
1. We are an Online Support Group, created in January 2019, to assist persons struggling with gambling harms. The PG Support Group is administered by non-paid volunteers, all of whom are recovering compulsive gamblers.
Tuesday Topic: How do you view your Gambling addiction?
Do you see it the same as other addictions or not? Do you feel its no different than depression or other mental health issues and its just how our underlying problems came out or do you view gambling addiction as unique?
Is it a normal part of recovery or a sign of failure?
Is it preventable?
If you've had one or more relapse, why do you think it happened and what did you learn from it?
How should the group respond to a member who returns to a meeting following a relapse?
Younger Members Meeting 🗣️
The Role of Relapse in Recovery:
Although relapse can be extremely discouraging and leave an individual feeling hopeless that they'll ever be able to stay abstinent , it's actually a common struggle for those in recovery.
First Younger Members (under age 30) meeting of @_PGSupport is Wednesday. Topic: Addressing the financial losses, emotional harm and shame. #meetingsmakeit
@KayWadsworth6 Hi Kay, not to sure how to respond to this question. What I can tell you is that we are a peer to peer group striving to support each other through this awful addiction.
Meetings Update:
Since we’ve had a recent influx of younger members, PGSG will be adding two additional meetings specifically designed to address the challenges encountered by younger people in recovery. The meetings will be for members who are under 30.
A member of any age who is struggling and needs a meeting may attend a Younger Members Meeting, but regular attendance should be limited to under 30 members.
It was amazing to host our most recent Guest Speaker this morning with the fantastic @laurengreutman sharing her journey in recovery.
Lauren’s story of compulsive spending resonated a lot within the group today.
Thank you for your time, Lauren ❤️
A huge thank you to @JPWdel1955 who set up this group to help those who may be disenfranchised with other treatment methods.
He has dedicated his time to administrate this fantastic network over these last three years ❤️
🎉PG SUPPORT GROUP 3 YEAR ANNIVERSARY🎉
3 years ago today we held our first online meeting. Today our open and inclusive group has 84 people striving for a better life away from active gambling addiction.
Very proud of our journey and the support we provide each other every day
Huge congratulations to our very own @DaveYGrampy on his recent milestone.
For the last two years he has dedicated himself to recovering from this insidious addiction and is now reaping the rewards ❤️
Tuesday Topic: We normally set goals this time of year to better ourselves and our life in recovery is no different.
Name one thing you feel you have done well with since you began recovery and name one thing you'd like to improve on this year.
Friday Topic: Stigma
Did you feel disappointed, ashamed, embarrassed, guilty, stupid and weak whilst in active addiction.
Do you still carry some of these feelings?
