The Fossil of the Year 2023 is Medullosa stellata. Strictly speaking, they are two fossils, but they belong to one and the same organism: the fossil plant Medullosa stellata with attached fronds of Alethopteris schneideri. It thrived in Early Permian tropical forests.
Together with colleagues from the University of Tübingen, the RG Geobiology (formerly RG Early Life) is organizing a Biosignature Workshop this March in Tübingen. It is open to early career researchers including postdocs and PhD students.
