I’ve got a real treasure today for anyone interested in medicine, recipes, and/or women’s books: a copy of Culpepper’s English Physician, published by a woman and owned by two sisters! Read through for a special treasure… 1/

Can we talk about the fact that the first printed illustration of Plautus’s plays is super queer and I love it? Technically, this title page of the 1510 Plautus, printed in Parma, depicts the Menaechmi twins being reunited, but, y’all. Come on.
Of course, it's also cool for other reasons! I love the binding, particularly those grungy little tacks. I don't know much about IDing binding, but I want to guess German, based on the blind tooling? Can someone correct me? #bookbinding
It's #FragmentFriday! Remember that 1640 Jonson 1640? (link below) In addition to everything else, it has this lovely #bindingwaste, barely visible! Even more to come on this folio in the future, as I've had a chance to reexamine it...
📖💫 @jes1003 & i are pleased to share that our article identifying john milton as the former owner & annotator of the @freelibrary shakespeare first folio is out now!
