This reply won't be too long, I promise.
First, I want to say that I agree on us doing better.
Secondly, you can't compare us to South Korea.
- Independence since 1945
- Samsung, Hyundai, SK Group, LG (all founded in the 20th century) - competitive advantage
- Neighbouring countries: China and Japan - who are both great in terms of global competitive advantage.
You want to compare it to South Africa:
- No original automaker. We manufacture for Japan and Germany mainly.
- No tech competitive advantage like Samsung and SK Group.
- Independence gained towards the end of the 20th century.
- we close our steel and other manufacturing plants because of competition from the likes of China. They have China as a neighbour where they can easily transfer skills for things like building a railway network.
- They less I speak about our neighbouring countries, compared to theirs, the better.
Point being: yes, SA can do better. You just can't put us up there with South Korea. At least not yet, we need to give ourselves some grace for the progress we made thus far.
Just my opinion though.
@MickyJnr__ Micky, I'm sorry to say, but you are not a good reporter and I thought people have a personal vendetta against you.
What exactly is the story here? What was the complaint? How long is the ban?
@Amu_helo@MabuthoDubazana@Enhle_ZK Haibo bafethu, there is pros and cons to everything. Less trucks on the road also means there is less fatal accidents.
And it wouldn't be the first time whereby these things are handled by Transnet. The economy will self-correct.
@CliffUnderPar Metrorail died during his tenure (2020/21).
Loadshedding came back during his tenure (2018/19).
SAA recently had a leadership (board) exodus.
I can't speak on the war or the pandemic.
Point: Ramaphosa is like Zuma and Mbeki. They all have their good and bad.
