In our session about putting people at the centre of stroke measurement, @ReaDySpeech spoke of 4 measures:
Intelligibility
Conversation
Living well with dysarthria
Communication partner
We also heard from people living with dysarthria and what they want to see change. #UKSF23
Stroke survivors are at high risk of treatment burden.
In our Primary Care Workshop, @GallacherKatie spoke about “minimally disruptive medicine”.
Care needs to be person-centred so we can lessen the burden of treatment, keep people engaged, and produce better outcomes. #UKSF23
Working on a project and want to include stroke survivors?
Today we heard from the @TheStrokeAssoc Aphasia and Accessible Voices Group about how they shaped a Communication Support Pack, loved by health professionals AND stroke survivors!
Catch up on the #UKSF23 app!
A great discussion highlighting the voluntary and community perspectives on inequities in stoke - key message - it is our responsibility to listen and ensure everyone is involved and heard. How do we reach out and ensure our activity is holistic and inclusive? #uksf23
Powerful words from stroke survivor Paula Leask, “Everyday I asked my doctors if I would walk again.”
Her recovery was slow and she was told “you only get back what comes in the first 6 months.”
“If I had believed that, I never would’ve made the recovery I have.” #UKSF23
.@CharlesKod and Ann Bamford spoke with @JulietBou about community and patient involvement in stroke management and research.
Both agreed “People are underserved, NOT hard to reach.”
Every stroke survivor is an expert in their own right and inclusion is essential. #UKSF23
“Usual researches practices are unwittingly exclusionary.”
@AudreyBowenProf spoke about the need to address inequities pre- and post-stroke, whether it be prevention, treatment, or rehabilitation, and how we can identify inequities through awareness and exploration. #UKSF23
