India wants deeper capital markets, higher participation & stronger liquidity.

But STT keeps adding a cost to every transaction — and from April 2026, F&O STT has increased sharply:
• Futures: 0.02% → 0.05%
• Options premium: 0.10% → 0.15%

With capital gains tax already applicable, investors and traders face a layered tax burden.

If the goal is to make Indian markets more competitive and attract more global capital, is it time to phase out STT?

Lower transaction costs → better liquidity → more efficient markets.
