Culprit 4 — Hidden data you forgot about
Press CTRL + END on any sheet.
Did it jump to a cell way beyond your actual data?
Excel thinks your used range extends that far — and it is recalculating all of it even though it looks empty.
Fix — delete those cells, save and reopen.

You write this: =SUM(January:December!B5)
