Sonic Crossworlds was a FAILURE. Maybe. Possibly. Well okay not really. Let’s talk about the response to Crossworlds and why so many consider it dead on arrival

Frontier’s is an 8 hour long buggy, lacking in polish adventure that never feels like it knows what it wants to do, while Shadow Gens is 3 hours of consistent level design, evolving mechanics, balancing gameplay and spectacle brilliantly, wild
@SquidBytes25 Is Bowser’s Fury a mainline Mario game?
Seems that fandom collectively agrees the last mainline game was Odyssey, no real confusion there
This tweet very specially says “mainline” Sonic game
I agree, Shadow Generations is fantastic, top 10 favourites, easily, but it is a companion piece to a remaster, it’s not a “mainline” game despite how great it is
If the next mainline Sonic game really isn’t coming out until 2027 then we really don’t have any excuse for another “step in the right direction”
We used to get mediocre games yearly, I really don’t think I can handle waiting 5 years between em unless they’re worth it
@GamesCage_ Shadow Generations is fantastic but also not directed by the same guy doing Frontiers, or whatever Frontiers 2 turns out to be
I’m hoping for similar, if not better quality than that game, but who knows!

Another factor to consider is Shadow Gen’s does not have the same director as Frontiers or “Frontier’s 2”
So to act like the same quality is a guarantee is stupid
I agree though, if Sonic Team take the quality of Shadow Gens and apply it to a mainline game (one longer than 3 hours) then I have no doubts it’ll be amazing
It’s an Anniversary so it’s 100% justified but I think this is the last year I can deal with Sonic looking back so much, at least until the 40th
It’s not as impactful to have these look backs when every Sonic game indulges in the past so much with locales/dialogue
In 2026, we’re celebrating 35 years of speed, friendship, adventures, and being Forever Fast.
Here’s to the next level!

@Satoru_Yand SA1/2/Heroes/Shadow all came after one another and built off their respective stories, to act like that’s the same as Frontiers is ridiculous
Amy cutscene serves a purpose, her wanting to return to the adventures she had with Sonic, compared to “THATS AS POWERFUL AS DARK GAIA!!”
@Satoru_Yand SA2 is an anniversary title, Metal in Adventure 1 is in the bg, you could miss it and nothing would be different, there’s a difference between metal in SA1 and all the callbacks in Frontiers and Green Hill/Chemical Plant/ Sky Sanctuary
@PersonthePerso2 The self-indulgence is only warranted, aside from anniversary titles, if the game itself is trying to do something new/add to what it’s referencing
If it has a purpose like Shadow Gen’s then I got no issue
