@FStver2 @HistContent we have artifacts that describe her as the daughter of sargon. it also has an image of her which is a woman. also the en-priestess of nanna would have to be a woman because she would be a representation of nanna's wife. nanna being a male god.

@doomsdayslam @RoyalRedNectar @Aeyvern @ClinickCase also. tradition says it was john the apostle. but it could also be john the presbytr. or someone else. we don't know who wrote it and it's been contested for centuries. this was so debated that revelation barely made it into the modern christian bible.

it's a word she made up, but its a real thing.

ppl have discussed the concept a long time AND things change. words are invented/modified to discuss concepts all the time.

she wore women's clothing, referred to herself as a man's wife, and sought out gender affirming surgery.

transgender was not a term in ancient Rome. but is this not an example of transness?

if you want me to find the exact word and definition, that is not going to happen. it wouldn't happen if I was looking at people in ancient Rome bc they wouldn't have the word.

this part isn't much to do with hemingway's writing, but it does reveal reflection on the subject

yes, role-play doesn't make you female. it is experimentation with gender.

however, gender was also something that hemingway struggled with. apparent in hemingway's close, then fraught, relationship with his trans daughter.

but it's definitely talking about gender in a way that doesn't just mean "sex" or else Hemingway wouldn't have been "Mary's girl" or Catherine/Katherin.

iirc, Mary would say in her autobio that it was Hemingway's idea, not hers

i don't have time or care to argue. just pointing out that Hemingway did write about & experiment w/ gender
