@Eric_Erins idk if this is same girl but she has a rent stabilized apartment and is a full-time content creator so that renovation funded itself (along with her rent, lifestyle, etc.)
@OpiningChickpea We have similar legislation in NJ- iirc it bans state pension funds from investing in any company that “participates in BDS”. This includes companies that decided to pull out of illegal settlements even if they continue to support Israel, ie Unilever.
@FavColour_Green All the points about this specific kind of pavement are valid, but other types of permeable pavements do exist that do not pose problems for accessibility and maintenance, like porous asphalt, but are still not widely adopted for some reason
@JerseyanUSA@Baizhijie It’s a solid mix of corruption, lack of comprehensive planning, & prioritization of developers. But it’s frustrating to see these “improvements” only implemented where they are trying to attract new residents, while ignoring the needs of the (largely car-less) existing population
@SwissKrono_JH@mbonsma @trainfacts2020 In rent-controlled areas many people stay renting for decades. Build whole lives & families in 1 place, same as a homeowner would. Sometimes even pass units onto descendants. And they can continue to afford it when all they have is ss income
@kaytaylorrea when I still had a flip phone (early high school) I memorized most of my friends numbers by accident, just from seeing it in my text box. Now, the only number added to my mental Rolodex has been work, bc it’s in my email sig. Not even my partner who I live with
@sasha_zabelski I would ultimately like to pursue independent research & feel like I would benefit from the network, structure, and support of a PhD program to build confidence & my C.V. but I do wonder how realistic it is to access funding without institutional affiliation
@notyourkato Antibody testing. I’ve been commuting/working a public-facing job since 2020, I try to test regularly but thought there was still a chance I had it without knowing. Antibody test was negative. Not sure how long they would be detectable though 🤷🏽♀️
@jedmundstephens Working in the rare book/map world, there are definitely more differences. Mostly that my job survives on sales. & withholding knowledge/labor is expected
