The Homestake Trophy made the trip back to Rapid City after SD Mines beat BHSU 27-13 in the 140th Black Hills Brawl on Saturday night (10/4/25) in Spearfish.
Through 3 1/2 quarters of steady rainfall, it was an old fashion smash mouth football game in which SD Mines took it right to BHSU, accumulating 257 yards on the ground, primarily by running right up the middle of the Yellow Jacket defense.
While BHSU had difficulty dealing with the rainy weather conditions, including high long snaps and the inability to catch punts, SD Mines rose above and played as if the weather conditions had absolutely no effect on them whatsoever.
The Hardrockersโ defense brought the hard hitting, punch โem in the mouth, style of play from the 1st series to the final whistle. The defense held BHSU to a ridiculously low 157 yards of total offense, only allowing 137 passing yards and a mind blowing 20 rushing yards!
Leading SD Mines to the win were:
๐ Gage Baker, 9 Cmps on 19 Atts for 125 Yds Passing & 3 Carries for 21 Yds Rushing;
๐ Ty Harris, 22 Carries for 159 Yds & 2 TDs;
๐ Dawson Dunbar, 18 Carries for 80 Yds & 1 TD;
๐ Mason Galbreath, 3 Recs for 61 Yds;
๐ Jacoby Ogbonna, 5 Recs for 58 Yds;
๐ Jarin Allen, 8 Tackles (2 Solo & 6 Ast);
๐ William Lester, 7 Tackles (3 Solo & 4 Ast) with 1.5 TFLs;
๐ Lane Thomas, 6 Tackles (3 Solo & 3 Ast) & 2 INTs; &
๐ Charlie Johnson, 5 Tackles (1 Solo & 4 Ast) & 1 INT.
SD Mines has won their last 2 games and look to extend that streak to 3 on Saturday when CO Mines makes the trip to Rapid City.
Here are a few SD Minesโ highlights from Saturdayโs Black Hills Brawl win (there would be more, but BHSUโs broadcast of this significant game left little to be desired):
