Do strict syllabus warnings actually stop students from using AI to cheat? 🛑🤖

​In a new study (N = 3,298) out in Computers in Human Behavior, we found that syllabus threats and "AI is plagiarism" policies fail to shape student risk perceptions.

The fix? Ditch the boilerplate threats and focus on transparent task boundaries and managing workload pressure.

Practical implications: Our research supports environmental crime prevention strategies. 🚧 Homeowners can reduce victimization by minimizing visible signs of valuables. And gun owners should be aware that open advertisement of gun ownership can increase risk of property crime.
