Royal Ascot Day 1 🐎
2:30: More Thunder - 7/2 (0.5 Points EW)
3:05: Ruler’s Pride - 9/1 (0.5 Points EW)
3:40: Rosy Affair - 25/1 (0.5 Points EW)
4:20: Bow Echo - 5/6 (2 Point Win)
5:00: Galileo Dame - 14/1 (0.5 Points EW)
5:35: Ghostwriter - 15/2 (0.5 Points EW)
6:10: Valiancy - 9/4 (1 Point Win)
More Thunder - shaped incredibly well in the Lockinge, running the perfect prep race, flashing home and looking suited by the stiffer mile. Notable Speech will be difficult to turnover, but track form would have to be a concern, as would Opera Ballo stealing it off the front. We feel Haggas’ colt has more to offer at this grade and if stepping forward from Newbury should hit the frame.
Ruler’s Pride - looked very smart on debut and has been put away since to be primed for this. Burke has made a fast start with his 2yos and McDonald taking the ride is no major concern in a race as open as this. Definite each way chance with four places paid.
Rosy Affair - has to take a step forward, but would be entitled to do so on fast ground (where she remains relatively unexposed). Second to Flora Of Bermuda in similar conditions earlier this season bodes well. Seemingly overpriced here with five places paid in this highly competitive race.
Bow Echo - looks a potential superstar in the making and we personally struggle to see how Gstaad turns the form around. Puerto Rico should set an end to end galop (and could be dangerous) which also suits Talk Of New York - who still has it to prove at this level. Boughey’s gets the nod here.
Galileo Dame - all of the O’Brien horses here will have been primed for this, and the run at Chester looks a great prep for this. The outside draw isn’t much of a concern in a race of this distance and she has each way claims.
Ghostwriter - 3yo form with the likes of Calandagan and City Of Troy is by far the best in this race, it is a question however whether this colt retains that ability. A prep run has been deemed unnecessary, and with a good display at this meeting last year Ghostwriter is a player here.
Valiancy - looks open to further progress and as such may still be ahead of his mark. Doyle agrees in what looks a strong Wathnan hand, can go very close.
Sunday Selections 🐎
New Bond Street - 7/4 (2.5 Point Win)
Allegrino - 13/8 (1.5 Point Win)
Tiffany - 9/4 (1.5 Point Win)
1 Point (Total) Win Trixie (21.39/1)
New Bond Street (2:07 Cork) - holds an errant of fancy entries, including into the G1 Phoenix Stakes. Retains an Albany entry and to take up that assignment needs to win here.
Allegrino (2:14 Salisbury) - progressive on the AW over the winter and shapes as if further improvement is still possible. Yard in good form with a 20% SR, good chance.
Tiffany (3:45 Chantilly) - this looks a very weak listed race and this mare has G1 form from last season. Won on her reappearance last season and will be hoping to replicate that today.
Saturday Selections 🐎
Extremely Zain - 7/4 (2 Point Win)
Stardom Glory - 13/8 (1.5 Point Win)
1 Point Win Double (6.21/1)
Dunkeld Dreamer - 13/2 (0.5 Points EW)
Dunkeld Dreamer (1:50 York) - the step up in trip here looks to be a positive and he’s been consistent this season. Bumped into one at Hamilton on his penultimate start and ran credibly at Nottingham. Each way chance.
Extremely Zain (2:25 York) - entered into the Sussex Stakes and Haggas has spoke glowingly of this lad. Should be ahead of his mark and win here.
Stardom Glory (4:15 York) - has C&D experience on side and should take a step forward for that effort. Buick’s not flying on the 2yos and hopefully Palmer’s lad will get the job done.
Thursday Selections 🐎
Upper Hendersyde - 7/4 (1 Point Win)
Native Warrior - 5/4 (1.5 Point Win)
1 Point Win Double (5.18/1)
Upper Hendersyde (2:45 Yarmouth) - you’d expect improvement from an impressive debut, and soft ground should suit on pedigree. Exciting young rider Zac Lloyd is in saddle, should go close.
Native Warrior (7:00 Leopardstown) - disappointed on his last Irish raid, but that looks to be somewhat of a blip. Doyle travels over to ride and looks a big player here.
Sunday Selections 🐎
The Harv - 6/4 (1.5 Point Win)
Rose Ghaiyyath - 4/1 (1 Point EW)
Cap Santa Lucia - 9/1 (0.5 Points EW)
0.25 Points EW Double (49/1)
The Harv (2:25 Goodwood) - expensive breeze up purchase and Irish trained. Oisin takes the ride and will be looking to make a winning debut to make the investment worthwhile.
Rose Ghaiyyath (3:35 Goodwood) - a winner on this ground previously and was far from disgraced in the 1000 Guineas. Should step forward for that effort and be very competitive here.
Cap Santa Lucia (4:00 Longchamp) - nicely bred, with the dam a stakes winner on soft ground, Soumillon booked to ride, looks a great each way bet.
Saturday Selections 🐎
Met Ball - 10/11 (3 Point NAP)
Shipbourne - 7/4 (1 Point Win)
1 Point Win Double (4.25/1)
Pina Sonata - 5/1 (0.75 Points EW)
Met Ball (1:55 Doncaster) - brilliantly bred for early speed and the Burke yard are starting to pick up. Holds a G2 entry later this month and ought to be winning this for that to be an option.
Pina Sonata (2:05 Epsom) - mightily consistent and a winner on ground with cut previously. Chucked into a G1 early last season, indicating they’ve always thought a lot of her. Each way chance.
Shipbourne (3:45 Doncaster) - impeccably bred, out of a Guineas winner by Frankel, if living up to that pedigree should be too good.
Friday Selections 🐎
Temple Of Athena - 22/1 (1 Point EW)
Bill The Bull - 8/11 (3 Point NAP)
1 Point Win Double (38.72/1)
Legacy Link - 7/2 (0.5 Points EW)
Temple Of Athena (1:30 Epsom) - conditions look set to suit today, with softer ground a major positive. She won at Chester last season and hopefully those transferable track skills pay dividends today.
Legacy Link (4:00 Epsom) - ran a great trial in the Musidora and is entitled to take a step forward for that. Looked as if she would stay the additional trip and looks a clever each way bet.
Bill The Bull (5:35 Bath) - a very short price, but sets the standard here by some distance having run well in the Brockelsby and a listed contest last time out. Should just win.
