Israel has the right to defend itself, just like every country. October 7 was a horrific atrocity, and Hamas, Hezbollah and the IRGC own their violence. I never said otherwise.

But "right to defend yourself" isn't a blank check. Even in war, self-defense has limits: you go after combatants, not civilians, and the harm you cause has to be proportionate to the military goal. That applies to every country, including Israel, the US, and any country you're rooting for.

And "they started it" isn't a moral defense. It's what every side in every war says. Hamas says it about the occupation. Israel says it about October 7. If that settled things, nobody could ever be held accountable for anything.

That's exactly what my post was about. Dionysios started a revolt, and the Ottomans answered by flaying him alive. Both sides were brutal, and "he started it" didn't excuse the second part then either.

My position hasn't moved: no one gets a pass for killing civilians, no matter who fired first. You can back Israel's right to defend itself and still insist it follows the rules. If you think it shouldn't have to, say that.

1.Seoul is a bad comparison. Seoul is about 35 miles from the border and in range of thousands of cheap artillery guns that are hard to knock out quickly. Iran has missiles and drones, which are expensive, limited in number, and often get shot down. And it didn't stop anyone. Israel hit Iran in 2024, and the US hit Fordow and Natanz in 2025.
