TETHER SCRAPPED PLANS TO LAUNCH ITS OWN BLOCKCHAIN ~ BLOOMBERG
- According to a recent Bloomberg report, stablecoin giant Tether, the firm behind the world’s largest $USDT stablecoin, originally…
“toyed with the idea of launching its own distributed ledger”
- However, these plans were eventually “nixed”, partly due to the saturated nature of the blockchain space.
“Launching a blockchain ourselves might be not the right move. There are very good blockchains”
… said CEO, Paolo Ardoino.
- Ardoino further explained that, for Tether, blockchains are just “transport layers” and he is happy to stay “agnostic” when it comes to them.
- The report additionally highlights that, of some 306 different chains, the biggest 5 command a staggering 86% of all total-value locked.
- In this respect, it appears that Tether and Ardoino are content to continue to dominate the stablecoin market, rather than risk the launch and subsequent failure of their own L1/L2.
