Pursuing a Master's Degree in Taiwan for Free (Plus, they even pay you to come here!)

I know that pursuing a further degree isn’t for everyone. Studying itself might not fit you. But I believe it’s important—not just to learn new things, but to apply them, get certified, and broaden your perspective. Plus, you get to live abroad like a local! 🌍

Most of us are scared. The thought of living alone abroad can be daunting. What if you don’t make friends? What about the language barrier? And let’s not even talk about the costs… Studying abroad seems super expensive!

Don’t worry! IT IS NOT EXPENSIVE! If you prepare well and have the drive, you can study for FREE! Yes, FREE! And if you’re hardworking and a bit lucky, they might even pay you to study! 🎉

Taiwan needs more workforce due to its aging society. They’re eager for international students, which means more opportunities for you!

To get started, make sure you’ve graduated from your bachelor’s (or high school). Identify trends in your major and set your target (e.g., Industrial Data Science if you're from Industrial Management). Research universities in Taiwan and list scholarship programs—both from universities and the government.

Collect information on admission dates, requirements, costs, and scholarship mechanisms. Then, take a deep breath and let it out—don’t hold it in! 😅

When applying, choose universities based on your priorities (like sorting products on e-commerce). Think about scholarships, university rankings, and even food options! 🍜

Now, for the important step: documents. You’ll need two main sets: Admission and Visa Requirements. Here’s a general list based on my experience:
- Application Form (print it out!)
- Passport Photocopy
- Degree Certificate & Transcript (translated, notarized, legalized, and authorized)
- 2 Recommendation Letters
- Bank Statements (min. 6 months of living expenses)
- Family Registration Certificate
- TOEFL ITP Certificate Photocopy
- Thesis/Awards
- Payment Proof (application fee)

Pursuing a master's degree abroad is a challenging but rewarding journey. With the right preparation, you can make it happen. Don’t let fear hold you back!

This is just a general overview. I’ll share more about my own experience in another thread, along with a list of universities that offer scholarships. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments—I’ll do my best to answer! Lastly, sorry if the thread is all over the place; this is my first time writing!

P.S.: I know it is a lot of hard work, but it will all pay off. I will help you guys with some Excel templates you can use to list the documents required, deadlines, etc. (Remember that you are applying as a master's student, so be proactive~!)

P.S.S.: I received a scholarship from the university worth NTD 7,000/month (IDR 3.5jt) + NTD 15,000/month (IDR 7.5jt). Moreover, I managed to arrange my schedule to work remotely tutoring programming for NTD 1,000/hour (IDR 500k), developing websites as a freelancer for projects worth NTD 30,000~NTD 120,000, and working part-time as a cashier and cleaner in other odd hours. So yeah, no need to worry about your living costs here.
