Huge congrats to @ClannnanGaelGAA on the opening of their new astro turf pitch today by club legend Brendan McGovern.
The new pitch was delivered at a cost of €170,000 & a total of €120,000 was provided to the club through the Government's Sports Capital Grants programme.
@GerHerbert1 Completely agree with all these points.
Another point would be around improving road design. There are many roads in towns and cities that are too wide and encourage speeding. Having an appropriate road design to match the desired speed will help a lot
@Toibin1 Reducing speed limits is important part of safer roads. Is many country roads in Meath that are 80km and should be much lower.
We need to:
- Reduce speed limits to safer defaults
- Greater enforcement
- Safer road design ( too many roads are too wide and encourage speeding)
@NavanCycling Has to be some report / reason given for changing the designs surely. Can an FOI request be made to see what was discussed around this project? See what input the Active Travel Team had in the process? Lack of transparency is frustrating
@OMurchuDonal@NavanCycling@gartommat@meathchronicle@meathcoco I remember hearing that also a few years ago 🫤 I hope that isn't the case and can be done soon. Work to improve a roundabout as dangerous as the Round O for pedestrians shouldn't be delayed by the LDR4 not being completed.
@marcus_mccabe@NavanCycling@seafoam_islands Is lethal. I emailed MCC in October asking to repaint the pedestrian crossing and narrow off slip to one-lane and haven't received a response yet. Followed up on December and still nothing.
My proposal: https://t.co/RJYbtoNfsz
I've emailed @meathcoco about this issue a few weeks ago and asked for this crossing markings to be repainted and for the slip off the roundabout to be reduced to one lane before the crossing. Something similar to below with bollards can be installed quickly. Awaiting a response
@NavanCycling@cavancoco@meathcoco @Carlow_Co_Co @Fingalcoco@LimerickCouncil Definitely more communication is needed! Even a newsletter/post every few months about new projects and events would be welcome. Currently it is very hard to find any news on active travel projects / events and only for @NavanCycling I wouldn't hear about any of it.
@NavanCycling@meathcoco@IrishCycle@cyclistie Looks very promising 😁 Happy to see the upgraded Flowerhill junction as part of this. Two extra official crossing points across Poolboy bridge and on fire station side will be big improvement. Pedestrian island being removed too 👍 Should mean pedestrians have better priority 🤞
