🚨 NASA About to Drop the HiRISE Images of 3I/ATLAS

Multiple sources are telling Avi NASA is finally preparing to release the HiRISE shots of 3I/ATLAS in the next few days. After 43 days of shutdown delays and bureaucratic choke points, the data is finally moving.

This is frickin huge. These images give us a side view of the anti-tail, the same structure Hubble caught edge-on back in July. HiRISE has triple Hubble’s resolution, so even if it can’t resolve the nucleus directly, it’ll give us the tightest constraints yet on its diameter and the geometry of those jets.

The real story is that the anti-tail points toward the Sun and not away and that alone makes this object an outlier.
NASA sat on these images while 3I/ATLAS was actively evolving. Time sensitive science held hostage by paperwork. That’s what none of us should be okay with, but the wait’s almost over.

Next week, we’re going to see what Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter actually captured... Or will we lol.
