Hip-hop journalist James Bernard has reportedly passed away.

Bernard helped push hip-hop journalism into the mainstream and played a key role in shaping how Black music and culture were covered, leaving a lasting impact on the media landscape.

He was a cofounder of XXL and involved in the brand's early vision. Bernard was also one of the original editorial voices at The Source.

At this time, Bernard’s cause of death has not been made public. News of his passing has been shared by Questlove and multiple media colleagues.
