An editorial in The Indian Express titled “Foreign hand bogey is wearing thin. Bury it” stands in contemptuous judgement of any suggestion that the “regime change” protests in India may not be entirely the organic machination of young minds railing against a system that has stopped listening to them. The editorial dismissively shames anyone even considering the possibility of “foreign intervention” as evidence of “a kind of political and intellectual bankruptcy”. The attempt is obvious: to project the protests against the CEC and the NDA as a wholesome expression of dissent borne out of genuine causes.
One would not ordinarily spend so much time interrogating the conclusions reached by The Indian Express had it not been for the pretentiously high-minded slogan printed in full caps above the editorial. It reads: “BECAUSE THE TRUTH INVOLVES US ALL”.
