I’m back :) I’m so happy I had the opportunity to serve in the Japan Tokyo South mission. I learned and grew so much. I love this gospel so so so much and God is so good. #日本が大好き💕 #これからもよろしくお願いします!🍙
If you didn’t serve a mission for any reason or if you didn’t serve as long as you anticipated, you absolutely, 100% belong in the church. You’re not a 2nd-class member. You don’t have to explain the circumstances to anyone. The church is your home as much as anyone else’s.
@aspynn_ Elder Holland disagrees (see “Like a Broken Vessel” from Oct ‘13 General Conference.) Medication, when used appropriately, is a modern day miracle and I am thankful for it. It’s great if you don’t need meds, but many do, & it’s very harmful to imply that that’s wrong.
@AlCarraway I whatever is coming to my mind while I’m reading, I write down! I try not to stress out too much with color coding or only looking for specific things; I just open my heart to the spirit and let it teach me what I need that day 💕
When you are experiencing personal trials, take a moment to be quiet and pray, and specifically ask Heavenly Father what lesson you are going to learn from this experience. Sometimes your tests teach you that you are much more than you thought.
If you didn’t serve a mission for any reason or if you didn’t serve as long as anticipated, you still absolutely & entirely belong in the church. You’re not a 2nd-class member. You don’t have to explain your mission to anyone. This church is your home as much as anyone else’s.
BYU Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) is an incredible place with brilliant faculty & staff. They are changing lives.
CAPS is also overflowing with students needing help. It doesn’t have the resources to fill the need.2-3 month waiting times to get an appt won’t work.
Also, I’m studying to become a psychiatrist one day so I can help others who have been through similar things that I have. Please always feel open to DM me. Doctors/therapists are expensive & I want all people to feel like they have access to someone who cares. 💕
4. My point:
Mental illness can and will kill, just like any other disease. Let’s start treating it like one and not shaming or blaming anyone, whether it be BYU or the students.
3. Religious people, however, tend to try and mask or hide their illness, in hopes that God will take it away.
God will not take it away.
But he can help if we trust that he will help lighten our emotional load.
2. Believe it or not, just because you go to a religious school or have strong religious beliefs, doesn’t mean you’re exempt from mental illness. These are two different ballparks.
Everybody who has clinical depression (in some way or another) can’t avoid some suffering.
1. I am a BYU student. I have clinical depression. I have been suicidal in the past. So I understand and can empathize with those of us who have been hit home so hard by what happened.
