“Se” only starts to be referred to as “God” after colonization & the introduction of Christianity. Historically, and in Ewe indigenous belief systems, it’s not understood as God, it refers to a person’s essence, their fate, their destiny etc, & it’s specific to each individual.
We have a concept in Ewe called "Se" which can be translated to destiny/soul/fate etc. There are a series of names that come from this idea that I find absolutely beautiful: Seyram "Fate blessed me," Selorm: "Fate Loves Me," Sedinam: "Fate answered me," Sessimè: "In fates' hands"
All week my daughter’s been giving me her stuffed unicorn to take to work.
This morning I went to grab it and she goes “No daddy, unicorn can have the day off today.”
Man, fuck that unicorn.
Sir @JDMahama, I would be deeply honored to cook with you someday. Over a meal, I’d love for us to explore the future of Ghanaian food, culture and how we can showcase our cuisine to the world . Thank you 🇬🇭
