@_Swagelin@FoulTerritoryTV@JakeDRill But sure, if you don’t want to see reason either we can end things. I have plenty of other things to be doing with my Sunday night. Have a great night.
@_Swagelin@FoulTerritoryTV@JakeDRill He wasn’t that far out at the time of the tag and besides, it’s a judgement call… so if you’re not gonna show enough of an emphatic tag attempt and try a flimsy little wave, of course you’re not gonna get the call.
@_Swagelin@FoulTerritoryTV@JakeDRill Clement isn’t a bad base runner. Henderson knows if he tries an actual tag, Clement will just freeze and force a rundown and then there’s a chance you don’t get in in that play if the rundown is botched.
@jeffwillsgrm@FoulTerritoryTV@JakeDRill He never made an actual attempt. Can’t give a shadow of a doubt to umpires and his flimsy, lazy wave was not even close to be considered an attempt.
…but all of it’s moot anyways because Clement never even should’ve been on base if not for Henderson’s error in prior at bat.
@_Swagelin@FoulTerritoryTV@JakeDRill lol clearly not the same game if you think Clement was ever in right field. He very clearly stayed on the infield dirt the entire time.
@_Swagelin@FoulTerritoryTV@JakeDRill Doesn’t have to chase him into the outfield. Needs to be a more emphatic jab of the ball in glove toward the runner while moving towards said runner. A flimsy, lazy wave of one’s glove is not enough proof to the umps, especially on a moving play when things happen quickly.
@vinnyj96@TheB1GTerp@FoulTerritoryTV@JakeDRill He did not make a legit attempt. A flimsy wave is not an attempt. Using the ball in glove to actually make a proper, emphatic jab is an attempt. Things happen fast and need to make a clear cut showing you’re trying to attempt a tag (like in the ninth inning) or it won’t count.
Add onto the fact that none of this would’ve been an issue if Henderson didn’t screw up with his error on the Clement ground ball in the previous at bat. He compounded his own error by being lazy on the following play.
Here is the full Ernie Clement/Gunnar Henderson play from today’s @Orioles at @BlueJays game, and Dan Shulman really explains this well.
I don’t see a tag attempt, and if you wanted to call what Henderson does a tag attempt, Clement stays within three feet of where he was at the time of the “attempt”, so I feel they got this right.
@jwoods_johnny@masnOrioles You’re the one who doesn’t know baseball. All you know is how to be lazy like your shortstop by spewing personal insults because you have nothing else to say.
@__Ac0g__@ellllyeah19023@JoeByron87@Kshed17@masnOrioles Well, he fielded the ball in front of the second base bag. So can’t just wait there.
The bigger issue is simply not taking a couple steps towards him to make an obvious attempt to tag Clement. Flashing a glove does nothing except swat at an invisible bee that’s in your face.
@BranhamFrank@FoulTerritoryTV@JakeDRill Besides none of it should’ve mattered if Henderson had gotten Clement out anyways on his ground ball. Valenzuela’s grounder would’ve been the third out anyways. Shortstop fucked up an easy grounder and then got lazy on the next one. Simple as that.
@BranhamFrank@FoulTerritoryTV@JakeDRill Doesn’t need to chase all over the diamond. Out of basepath call only has an effect if you make an actual tag attempt. Henderson didn’t do that. He just stood there like a lazy bum and expected to get a tag that way. When he did nothing and got nothing out of it, he just gave up.
@PeepMySlashLine@JustalilPolarb1@_BigSportsGuy77@JoeByron87@masnOrioles That’s not an actual attempt. There may as well have been a bee with that kind of lazy wave. When other fielders do tag attempts, they actually try and thrust the entire glove at a runner with an obvious motion. Like with replay reviews, can’t give shadow of doubt with your play.
@JohnnyGiunta_ ngl I’ve been enjoying twitter with angry o’s fans, reminds me of a couple weeks ago when jays fans were melting down over Hoff’s game in game 3 of the series in Baltimore 😂 they think it’s the ump’s fault but really it’s on their lazy shortstop—he didn’t even try!
@ColumbOtterClub@masnOrioles He wouldn’t have won it. Henderson did NOT EVEN TRY to tag Clement. He just stood there and flashed a glove like a lazy ass. He didn’t need to chase the runner into the outfield, just take a few efforts to show he was trying to tag him out. Instead he made a bad assumption.
